Bio
A studio band is created
The musical journey of the talented duo known as "The Murphy Project" began during the early stages of the Coronavirus pandemic in late 2019. They had dabbled in original music before when they performed together in the 1990's in the rock group "Thunder Teaz" but never got serious about it until 2019 with their first major collaboration writing the Halloween themed song "Blood Red Moon", which is featured on their debut release "About Damn Time". The duo has showcased their unique style and creativity.
Tom Murphy, is a member of the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was inducted in 2019 with the band "Flipside". He is also a founder and former member of the "Beatles Tribute Band - Rocky Raccoon", and was inspired by his experiences in the music industry, life on the road and the clubs he played nightly for 40 plus years. When the pandemic lock-downs hit he decided it was time to collaborate with his wife, Traci, who is a fine vocalist, percussionist and lyricist, to explore some new musical horizons. Only this time on their terms. No deadlines, no gear hauling, no back-breaking four hour live gigs. The recorded performances are the show.
Drawing from their shared passion for all genre's of music and strongly influenced by their close friend and former "Rocky Raccoon" band member, Scott Radway, who himself is a fine multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, recording engineer and producer, Tom and Traci embarked on this musical journey that led to the formation of "The Murphy Project". Tom, portrayed the role of Paul McCartney in Rocky Raccoon, a Celebration of The Beatles and brought his expertise and mostly unknown (to most people) musical talents to the table, while Traci's skills as a lyricist, percussionist and vocalist complemented his own. Together, they began recording original songs that reflected their thoughts on life, people, love and mostly life experiences. But through it all it was their dedication to each other, the art of sound and their shared love for a vast variety of music that makes the project work.
As "The Murphy Project" continues to evolve, Tom and Traci find themselves immersed in an ever growing world of creativity and collaboration. Their music resonates with listeners, capturing the essence of experience and emotion. With each new album they produced, the duo showcases their growth as studio musicians, Tom's growth from live performance musician, to studio musician and recording engineer and producer and their ability to connect with audiences on a deeper level through their music. Tom and Traci have created a unique and captivating sound that sets them apart from others in the music industry. Drawing highly upon their influences but most of all keeping their music fresh and pleasing to the ears.
